Now that I am no longer employed at Katharine Gibbs (or elsewhere for that matter) I have to watch my bottom line more carefully. I could not resist, however, the "Frogs" exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History. Normally I shy away from that place. Like the New York Public Library, the AMNH pays its President an ungodly amount of money while, at the same time, laying off low paid employees in order to cut costs but that's a whole other story...
I was going to Central Park to shoot insects and so I had my macro rig with me but it was just too windy so as I walked by the museum I saw the big "FROGS" banner out front and decided to give it a whirl. This was a Thursday afternoon around 3:45 pm.
It cost me $24 to get into the museum and frog exhibit and I made sure I could take flash photos before I bought the ticket. The tickets are stamped for a specific time (to accommodate the crowds I imagine) but when I got to the exhibit entrance I was waved right in.
To my surprise I was the only one there. During the time I was there (4:00-5:45) only a handful of people wandered in so I had the place pretty much to myself.
It was great, especially the Poison Dart Frogs. They hang out in the open and are fairly cooperative. It's dark in there so if you want to shoot at f/22 you are going to need 2 flashes. I only had one with me but still got some pretty good shots at f/16 and ISO 200.
Here are more of my frog photos.
