Gillibrand to the Rescue

Maybe she's not as bad as I thought she was... we'll see

Dear Mr. Vornberger,

Thank you for contacting me regarding the reauthorization of the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act.  This reauthorization would increase the funding level under this act from its current cap of $6 million to $20 million by 2015.  I support this bill and look forward to supporting this legislation when it is brought before the Committee on Environment and Public Works, of which I am a member.

The NMBCA uses this funding to support partnership programs that work to conserve bird populations by way of habitat restoration, research and monitoring, education programs and law enforcement.  Since 2002, this program has supported over 220 projects in 44 states and more than 30 countries, affecting more than 5 billion birds representing more than 500 different species, many of which are on the endangered list.

The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act has a long and successful history of reversing habitat loss and working to conserve these bird populations.  I will work to continue this effort and increase funding levels for proven initiatives such as this.  Thank you for contacting me regarding this important issue.  Please stay in contact with my office regarding future conservation legislation and any other issue that may concern you.  For more information on this and other important issues being discussed in the United States Senate, please visit my website http://gillibrand.senate.gov and sign up for my e-newsletter.

Sincerely yours,
Kirsten Gillibrand
United States Senator
